The Ghana international has emerged as a key component of Diego Simeone’s combative side but is at loggerheads with his club over a new contract. Partey has already rejected one offer from the Spanish club and his current deal still includes a £47million release clause. Arsenal have been heavily reliant on the likes of Granit Xhaka and Matteo Guendouzi in central midfield this season and Mikel Arteta is keen to bolster that area of his squad. Juventus acquired Adrien Rabiot and Aaron Ramsey on free transfers last summer but neither player has fully adjusted to the demands of Maurizio Sarri’s style, while the former Chelsea manager dispensed with Emre Can in January and is on the lookout for midfield reinforcements.
