LAST Sunday at the Everest cricket ground, hosts Everest Masters convincingly outplayed the visiting Guyana UK team to win by six wickets.Despite soggy and overcast weather conditions, UK Guyana team won the toss and batted first. While most of their batsmen struggled in the conditions, a fine half-century by Navin Persaud contributed towards his team’s total of 109-8 from their allotted 20 overs.His 65 was laced with 3 fours and 2 sixes, with Raj Nanan, 16, being the only other batsman to reach double figures. Former national opening batsman Rohan Sarjoo was clinical with the ball instead, by capturing 3-18 from 4 overs while off-spinner Johnny Azeez claimed 2-21 from his 4 overs.In reply, Everest Masters treated their hosts roughly by racing to 111-4 from 16 overs. Essequibian Sahadeo Hardaiow top-scored with 37 (3×4, 1×6) while Troy Gonsalves made 36 including 1 four and 2 sixes.Navin Persaud had a good all-round game by returning with the ball to take 2-23 from his 4 overs. He was later named man-of-the-match and was presented with a trophy, compliments of Trophy Stall. Everest Masters were also presented with the winning trophy compliments of the UK Guyana team.The visitors took the opportunity to donate a set of cricket gear to the club including balls and a clock. The hosts in return presented the UK Guyana Team with a plaque which was also sponsored by Trophy Stall.More T20 matches are set to be played by the Everest Masters against visiting teams from the USA, UK and the Caribbean.
