Unbeaten season ‘not possible’, claims Chelsea boss Mourinho

first_img1 Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has dismissed the notion of his side maintaining their unbeaten run for the rest of the Premier League season. The Blues currently sit at the top flight summit with their 2-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield taking their tally to nine wins and two draws. Many have tipped the in-form team to repeat the feat of Arsenal’s famous ‘Invincibles’ team of the 2003/04 campaign, having looked by far the best team in the league so far.But when asked if he felt Chelsea had a chance to finish the season without losing, Mourinho replied: “No”.“I think it’s possible for us to be champions.“We immediately put ourselves on the line before the season started by saying we consider ourselves title contenders, and we want to play for that.“But in modern football, and especially in the Premier league, I don’t believe it’s possible to have that unbeaten run.”Mourinho’s men conceded early on at Anfield but came from behind to clinch another victory thanks to match-winner Diego Costa.Defender Gary Cahill earlier pulled the Blues level after Emre Can’s opener, and the manager was left to praise his team’s “fantastic” spirit and winning mentality.“I think it was a fantastic performance,” he added. “It was an expression of our ambition.“Drawing 1-1 in the second-half at Anfield, any team would accept a point, but my team didn’t accept that.“They had the confidence and self belief to win the match and get another three important points.”last_img read more
