Hydro trying to purchase homes in Bear Flats by Christmas

JOHN, B.C. – A property purchase time-line has become the latest bone of contention to surface in the Site C dam construction controversy.Arlene and Ken Boone, the latter the President of the Peace Valley Land Owner Association, are among a group of river valley landowners with property B.C. Hydro wants to purchase in the Bear Flat area in order to move the project forward.Mr. Boone says, they have now been informed by their attorney, that Hydro wants to have the purchase agreements in place by Christmas of this year.- Advertisement -He says Hydro has not yet put a purchase offer forward for what amounts to just about all the Boone’s land, consisting of three different quarter sections and to the best of his knowledge that is also true of the other landowners in the Bear Flat area, all of whom are being represented by the same law firm.To date Mr. Boone adds the landowners have developed a good solidarity relationship hoping to prevent Hydro from using what he called a divide and conquer negotiating strategy.He argues in the past it has been used in land purchase negotiations associated with dam constructions projects on both the Peace and Columbia rivers and that noted, he recycled to his time-line concerns…Advertisementlast_img read more
